Resumen

Desde 1941 hasta 1989, el Fondo Protocolos Notariales formó parte del Archivo Histórico de la Provincia de Mérida que se almacenaba en el Registro Principal del estado Mérida, y a partir del último año, se dio en guarda y custodia al Archivo General del Estado. Esta documentación se divide en expedientes civiles y criminales, los cuales están formados por un conjunto de manuscritos que fueron realizado por los escribanos públicos, quienes fueron los encargados de registrar las escrituras notariales, tanto públicas como privadas, dando fe de los actos que se desarrollaban ante él. El fondo colonial, de gran relevancia debido a su antigüedad y volumen, cuenta con un total de 797 tomos, con una media de 250 folios, organizados por series documentales que son descritos en el presente artículo.
