Abstract

Major depression and psychosis are mental disorders that have increased in recent years, various factors have had an impact on it, such as submitting to stressful events, biological alterations and genetic predetermination. The purpose of the research is to study major depressive disorder and psychosis as mental disorders, in order to understand their causes, symptoms and treatments, as well as the eventual clinical relationship that may exist between them. This study is of a qualitative descriptive nature, which is why a bibliographic review is carried out on the two variables investigated. In major depression, the medical strategy must be comprehensive-pharmacological and psychological- in order to achieve a positive incidence to avoid relapses and achieve a good medical response. Psychosis requires pharmacological, psychological and rehabilitative care, it is necessary to have family support and a specialized and multidisciplinary medical team. According to studies, in cases of presence of symptoms of depression in patients diagnosed with acute psychosis, depression tends to disappear when antipsychotic treatment is implemented and the psychosis remission process begins.
