Abstract
The purpose of this study was to determine the extent to which sexism is explained by empathy and attribution of blame to victims of gender-based violence among health care workers. The article examines the conceptualisation of sexism, empathy and attribution of blame to victims of gender-based violence from a theoretical approach. The methodological approach of the research is quantitative with an explanatory design, considering a sample of 332 health workers, including women and men, to whom three instruments were applied to measure: empathy, attribution of blame to victims of gender-based violence and sexism. Analysing the results, it was concluded that blame attribution and empathy have better predictive capacity when assessed separately, with empathy predicting benevolent sexism and hostile sexism being explained by blame attribution.
