Abstract

The review of the book The meaning of human life. Between theology and anthropology highlights a collection of six essays on medieval thinkers. Edited by Barragán Lizarazo, Moreno Sarmiento, and Romero Ramírez, the volume opens with a text by Mauricio Beuchot on the spirituality of Thomas Aquinas, emphasizing his mysticism influenced by Augustine. Subsequent essays explore Neoplatonic elements in Aquinas, the apophatic theology of Eckhart, and the anthropological visions of Hildegard of Bingen. The analysis extends to the notion of virtue in the works of Hildegard, Catherine of Siena, and Christine de Pizan, emphasizing a poetic rationality from a feminine perspective. The compilation concludes with an essay on Augustine’s pedagogy of intimacy as a response to modern educational challenges.
