Stages of the editorial process

Once an article is received by the editor and the Editorial Committee, the review process will begin within seven (7) weeks, followed by three (3) additional weeks for final editing and publication, subject to the periodicity of Clío. Journal of History, Human Sciences, and Critical Thinking.

Stage 1: Internal Review (Pre-review) — 2 weeks

During this phase, the following aspects will be verified:

  • Correspondence between citations and references.
  • Thematic compatibility of the article with the journal's disciplinary areas.
  • Plagiarism detection using specialized web-based software.

At the end of this phase, the author will be informed whether the article is accepted for external review or rejected.

Stage 2: External Peer Review — 5 weeks

The article will be evaluated by two peer reviewers under a double-blind review system. If there is a disagreement between the reviewers, a third evaluator will be assigned to resolve discrepancies.

Reviewers will provide feedback and classify the article into one of the following categories:

  • Accepted for publication.
  • Accepted with required revisions. The author must implement the suggested changes before approval.
  • Not accepted for publication.

The evaluation considers the following criteria:

A. Content Criteria

  1. Evidenced mastery of the subject.
  2. Scientific rigor.
  3. Theoretical and methodological soundness.
  4. Relevance and timeliness of the consulted sources.
  5. Contribution to existing knowledge.

B. Formal and Presentation Criteria

  1. Originality, relevance, and appropriate length of the title.
  2. Clarity and coherence of the argumentation.
  3. Proper structure of the abstract (objective, methodology, results, and keywords).
  4. Logical organization of the text.

Evaluation Scale: Each criterion will be assessed on the following scale: EXCELLENT, VERY GOOD, FAIR, POOR.

Once the review process is complete, the final decision will be communicated to the corresponding author via email.

If the article is classified as Accepted with required revisions, the author(s) will have a maximum of 15 days to submit a revised version along with a response letter addressing the reviewers' comments. The editor will determine whether the revised manuscript needs further review by the same evaluators.

The final decision (Accepted for publication or Not accepted) will be made by the editor in consultation with the Editorial Committee.

Stage 3: Final Editing and Publication — 3 weeks

Once an article is accepted, it enters the final editing and layout phase, which includes:

  • DOI assignment.
  • Online publication on the Clío journal platform.

Before publication, authors must submit:

  1. The final version of the article in Spanish or English, according to their preference.
  2. A signed authorization for text reproduction by the journal’s Editorial Committee.
  3. Author identification details, including full names, ORCID ID, and email.

Authors of rejected articles will be notified via email.
